I've improved the controls, added a grid, and a generation counter.
The resolution is also quadrupled, so it's quite a bit slower.
I still have an different algorithm to try, which I hope will make it run fullspeed. It's tricky to implement though, so we'll see when it's done.
Controls
A: When paused, toggle cell, when simulating, toggle grid display.
B: When paused, randomize grid, when simulating, toggle generation counter.
C: Clears grid when paused
D-Pad: Moves cursor when paused

Edit: This has not yet been tested on hardware, so let me know if it doesn't work properly.
EDIT 2: Made a performance improvement by skipping multiple empty cells at once rather than single cells (by fetching 4 1-byte cells at once in the main loop)
Also, A and B are switched while simulating.
